From concept to opening doors, it took three years for the Houston Recovery Center to become operational. In 2010, community connections were made, research conducted and a proposal put forward to the City of Houston. February 2012, Mayor Annise Parker unveiled her plan to ease overcrowding in the jail. The Sobering Center was central to her solution. In May 2012, Houston City Council approved Mayor Parker’s plan. One year later, the Houston Recovery Center received Marcus, our first client diverted from jail to sober up with us. We named our hallway after him as a reminder of the impact our work has on the clients we serve.
