Anthem Winners are selected by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences. The 4th Annual Anthem Awards was the most competitive season yet with more than 2,300 entries submitted from 34 countries worldwide. By amplifying the voices that spark global change, the Anthem Awards are defining a new benchmark for impactful work that inspires others to act in their communities. “The Winners of this year’s Anthem Awards are truly inspiring and I am honored to help elevate their impact,” said Anthem Awards General Manager, Patricia McLoughlin. “At this moment, there is a lot of uncertainty in our world, but the tireless and extraordinary efforts of the Anthem Awards community provide hope that a better tomorrow is possible.”

HRC delivers proactive-intervention for problematic substance use in its sobering center and through staff in-reach in jail, diversion courts, probation, the street, and emergency departments. Peer Recovery Support Specialists (RSS), with lived-experience in substance use disorders and recovery work with individuals, a case manager supports the client for the duration of their recovery, and trained Community Health Workers deliver integrated care and improve health equity, diversity and inclusion in HRC’s service delivery.

“The Houston Recovery Center began as a single-service focused organization receiving individuals brought in for public intoxication by law enforcement. However, our service model has evolved over the past 11 years in response to the needs of the population we serve,” said Leonard Kincaid, HRC CEO. “Today, we operate a comprehensive proactive service system targeting individuals that are chronic harmful substance users of high-cost services like EMS and emergency room admission. Our positive outcomes are impressive and this Anthem Award is another testament to all of our dedicated staff who work tirelessly to help those in need.”

About Houston Recovery Center

Houston Recovery Center (HRC) was launched in 2013 in Houston, Texas, to develop and operate a law enforcement jail diversion program. The Sobering Center delivers this program by receiving and monitoring intoxicated people as they safely sober up. The recovery process can include a series of treatment, healthcare, housing, and social services offered by independent specialty providers. Houston Recovery Center’s frequent clients, many with complex profiles, lack the resource capacity and

behavioral capability to navigate and enroll in a series of independent services on their own. In response, HRC designed Partners in Recovery, a recovery care management program pairing six months of case management with 18 months of peer support. HRC’s “recovery team” creates a recovery plan based on client-defined goals. Services are linked together in a continuum using transportation and “warm handoffs” to deliver a system of care. The overarching goal is to improve successful access to appropriate care resulting in increased rates of sustained stabilization and a better quality of life.
